5 Online Tests You Can Take RIGHT NOW To Find Your Personal Strengths
Don’t have time to read it now? Save it for later!
One of the best things you can do while working towards your goals is to become aware of your personal strengths!
By finding out what your natural strengths are you can build on them and utilize them to accomplish your goals easier!
Personally, I felt like I was taught to identify my weaknesses and figure out how to fix them.
Got a C in Math? Well, you better focus on getting better in math!
Many times we ignore what we are naturally good at and dismiss it as unimportant.
What if we decided to ignore our weaknesses instead?
What if we built upon the foundation of what we already love doing?
What if we focused on finding ways to incorporate more of our natural abilities into our work style?
The problem is many of us don’t actually know what we are naturally good at… this is where online tests and apps come in!
Here are 5 tests and apps you can use to find out your natural strengths right now!
Personal Strengths Test #1: The Strengths Finder
The first time I learned about this resource was at my college internship. At the time I was a junior in college and was working as an interior design intern at a large architecture firm.
For one of our on boarding tasks we were asked to take a test- the strengths finder test.
This test is simple enough, it asks a variety of questions and asks you to rate yourself on how likely you were to identify with each.
At the end of the test it gives you your top 5 strengths and explains how they can be utilized in the business world to help you.
This test completely changed my perspective on what “business strengths” were.
I had never thought of my ability to talk to others as a strength, or my tendency to find the positives in every situation as something that could help me in my career.
The results made me realize that the types of things that just felt natural to me- communicating, visualizing, and optimism, were strengths that I could rely on and build up to serve me.
This test is a paid test but it is well worth it.
You can purchase it online or buy a book that gives you an access code to the online test. As a student you get 40% off as well!
You can take the test here.
Personal Strengths Test #2: The Enneagram Quiz
Most of you have probably heard of the Enneagram, in the past few years it’s popularity has grown massively.
The Enneagram is based on the idea that there are 9 basic personality types that everyone falls into.
It is thought that each person is born with a dominant personality type, this type does not change from birth on.
The test is quite quick, it takes around 10-15 minutes and gives you statements that you rank on the scale of inaccurate- accurate.
At the end of the test they give you your personality number as well as the rest of the numbers and how aligned you were with them.
Many times you may be classified as one number but will find you have other numbers that also play a huge role.
Personally, I have been classified as a seven but when I looked I was only 1% off from being classified as a 3, which through research I found to be much more accurate.
After getting my number I like to dive into different articles and read as much as I can about my personality “type”.
This test is heavily focused on what motivates you, it can be a great insight to understand not only what your personality is like but why you are like that.
It can be hard to figure out what drives our decisions, this test helps you pinpoint that!
While this test isn’t always going to line up, I believe it is a good stepping stone to understanding yourself better. When you hear definitive statements about yourself made from a subjective third party it can be easier to feel if that resonates or not!
You can take the enneagram quiz here!
Personal Strengths Test #3: Meyers Briggs
You guessed it, another personality quiz! I first learned about the Meyers Briggs personality test in a psychology class in college.
This test is mainly focused on understanding how you perceive the world and make decisions.
It assigns you four letters: The first is decided between extroverted or introverted (how you get your energy)
Next, is between sensing and intuition (how you gather and interpret information)
Third is between thinking and feeling (how you make decisions)
Finally, it is between judging and perceiving (how you relate to the outside world)
My personal Meyers Briggs category is ENFJ: Extrovert, Intuitive, Feeling and Judgement.
Like the others, the actual test is quite simple.
It simply gives you a statement and you rank on a scale how much you agree or disagree with the statement.
There is a website called “16 personalities” that is, in my opinion, the best place for you to find out your personal Meyers Briggs type.
The article at the end goes through everything you could think of- romantic relationships, strengths and weaknesses, career paths, and even famous people who have your same personality type!
This is my personal favorite personality quiz, I found the information to be quite spot on and learned a lot about myself through taking it!
You can dig really deep into this information. I used to constantly listen to a podcast called “Personality Hacker” which dissected the meaning behind the Meyers Briggs test and how to apply it to your life.
You can take the 16 personality test here.
Personal Strengths App #4: The Pattern
Fourth on our list is “The Pattern” app!
One of my friends showed me this about a year ago and I have found it super fun to look at and play around in.
To begin with the app asks you what your name, birthday, place and time of birth are.
It then compiles a group of around 10 different patterns that you exhibit in different parts of your life- there are simple explanations of each and then you can dive deeper into them if you choose to do so.
One of my favorite parts of this app is you can add other people who also have the app and see how your personality “patterns” respond to one another.
It tells you about the things you have in common as well as how you may interact with one another.
You can even add a “romantic relationship” and see how your partner’s “patterns” work together!
The app allows you to create a placeholder profile for anyone so even if your s/o doesn’t have a profile you can make one for yourself!
This isn’t the most scientific of apps, and it reminds me a bit more of something like astrology, regardless it sure is fun to play around in and learn from!
There are tons of different sections that you can reflect on such as “periods of growth” and what period of life you are in.
You can download The Pattern on the app store!
Personal Strengths App #5: Co-Star
The final thing you can do to quickly learn more about yourself online, is to learn more about your astrological signs!
This is definitely more “woo-woo” and new agey than the other more psychologically based tests but I find it really fun to just see what it says!
I know many people who know their sun sign but haven’t ever looked further into it, there is so much you can learn about when it comes to astrology.
One of my favorite ways to do this is by the app “Co-Star”.
Like “the pattern” co star asks for your name and birth date information.
The app will then tell you all about your astrological chart- this includes your sun sign, moon sign and many others. Each has a description of what it is and what it means for your personality.
My personal sun sign is a Libra, my moon is in Libra and my “ascendant” is in Taurus!
This means I present myself to the outside world as a Tarurus, but feel my emotions and identity as a Libra.
As I said before this is the least scientific of them all but it can really help you self reflect on the information it is giving you.
I have really enjoyed looking into my astrology, while I don’t agree on everything it says about me, much of it rings true.
You can download Co-Star here!
Conclusion
To recap: The Strengths Finder Test is best for finding out your strengths and how they can apply to your career, the Enneagram Quiz can help you understand what motivates you, the Meyers Briggs can help you understand how you make decisions and find your inherent strengths, The Pattern can help you see different aspects of your personality and Co-Star gives you a fun look at your astrological signs and how those impact your life!
While none of these tests are truly going to tell you everything about yourself I believe the main value of them comes from their power to help us reflect.
