The Zorba Tulum Experience

In a sea of hotels- Zorba Tulum stands out from the crowd.

Private villas perched on a stunning plot of sandy shore overlooks the aqua blue of the Caribbean sea.

These villas are exquisitely crafted in the typical Tulum style– organic live edge wood tables, white washed concrete and stunning natural accents of straw and bamboo.

Unlike the craziness of many of the other hotels near by, Zorba lends itself to a feeling of privacy and spaciousness you will be hard pressed to find elsewhere in the ever growing city of Tulum.

Each villa is outfitted with stunning bedrooms, a full kitchen, dining rooms and balconies that overlook palm trees and water that looks like it came from a postcard.

With access to a gorgeous pool, expansive rooftop patio, yoga studio, a breakfast bar and daily housekeeping this is the perfect meld of hotel and private housing.

Visiting Tulum, Mexico

Tulum, Mexico has grown substantially in popularity in the last few years, and it is easy to see why.

Perched along the Caribbean sea runs an area rich in exciting activities and places to see.

From scuba diving in cenotes to visiting Mayan Ruins or simply hanging out at the uniquely designed hotels and restaurants along the water, this is the perfect place for a vacation.

When Is The Best Time To Go To Tulum?

The high season in Tulum is November through April– this time of the year boasts wonderful weather but prices can be higher due to the influx of tourists.

We personally made it to Tulum in December and the weather was perfect (besides the high winds which are common this time of year)

May-August, or “shoulder season” down in Tulum and is a great time of year to go to avoid high prices and still find wonderful weather.

I have heard from friends though that this time of year and the low season are considered “seaweed season” and bring an influx in seaweed which can change the water color and cause the beaches to be speckled with it.

June, September and October on the other hand are best to be avoided as it is the rainiest time in Tulum and many places close.

Location- The Hotel Zone

Perched in the popular “hotel zone” Zorba Tulum is centrally located with easy access to many different restaurants and places to explore.

The hotel zone of Tulum is what probably comes to mind when you think of the Tulum you see on Instagram.

High end hotels are perched along the sea on one side of the street with fancy restaurants, high end clothing boutiques and cute cafes line the sand on the other side of the street.

Zorba Tulum is also only a 10 minute drive from Sian Kia’n or the biosphere in Tulum. This is a gorgeous, non developed area down the road from the “hotel zone” and can be explored on bike or with a tour group!

Tulum Centro vs Tulum Hotel Zone

While the hotel zone in Tulum is what may initially come to mind, the actual town of Tulum- or fondly called “Tulum Centro”. Tulum Centro is located around a 15 minute drive from the beach area.

The two do have quite different vibes- and after staying in each I found I preferred the hotel zone.

The hotel zone feels more high end and has many more activities to do, with the beach right there you are never without stunning scenery.

Tulum centro on the other hand, feels more like what you might imagine a Mexican city to feel like. It is still a very cute place to roam around but you are more likely to be met with construction, un-finished roads, and trinket markets with owners haggling with tourists.

I do think this area is worth a visit but it doesn’t quite have the relaxing, vacation feeling of the hotel zone.

How To Get To Zorba Tulum

You have a couple of choices when deciding how to get to your beachfront villas in Tulum. First, you will need to decide how you are getting to Tulum in the first place!

First Option: Hotel Arranged Pickup

The first option is to have the hotel arrange a pickup at the airport in Cancun and take you back to the hotel. This does cost extra so you will want to compare it to the next two options.

Second Option: ADO Bus & Taxi

The second option is to take the ADO bus from the airport and ride it into Tulum Centro where you will hail a taxi to take you to the hotel.

The ADO bus is essentially a greyhound bus that takes tourists all over the Yuctan area of Mexico. The bus is quite nice and only costs around $13 each way. A taxi from Tulum Centro to Hotel Zone is around $15 USD so you will end up spending $28 (give or take) dollars on transportation.

Third Option: Rent A Car

The third and final option is to rent a car in Cancun and drive down to Tulum.

I personally think this is the best option and what I wish we would have done. Car rentals are surprisingly cheap in this area (think $27 a day and up) and I found it wonderful to have a car to get around in ( we got one later on in Tulum ).

Zorba also has parking areas right out front just for guests so you wont have to worry about parking.

Zorba Tulum Options

Zorba Tulum features 6 different options for villas– these vary in pricing and the number of bedrooms but all have equally amazing architecture and location.

Villa 1

This is the villa that I stayed in while I was here, it is the only villa with a clear view of the ocean and for that it is my favorite. This villa boasts two bedrooms- the master bedroom with a gorgeous balcony overlooking the water and access to the shared pool.

This villa ranges from $950-$1100 per night with a four night minimum depending on the season.

Villa 2

This second villa is a three bedroom villa with a view of the palm trees and shared pool. A private kitchen and spacious living area makes this villa really special.

This villa ranges from $1150-$1400 per night with a four night minimum depending on the season.

Villa 3

The third villa is also a three bedroom, and is tucked amongst the tree canopies. A private rooftop terrace separated this space from the others.

This villa ranges from $1300-$1600 per night with a four night minimum depending on the season.

Villa 4

The fourth villa- another three bedroom space is mere steps from the shared pool. This villa sits amongst the trees and the master suite features a private rooftop patio!

This villa ranges from $1300-$1600 per night with a four night minimum depending on the season.

Villa 5

The fifth beachfront villa in Tulum is the largest and boasts five bedrooms. This one sits right on the ocean and has a private pool attached to it. This is the best villa for groups of friends or family and features a dining table for 12.

This villa ranges from $2000-$2800 a night with a 4 night minimum.

Penthouse

The final option is the penthouse- this 1800 square foot penthouse, a beautiful space with two bedrooms, a beautiful balcony and stunning views.

This penthouse ranges from $1000-$1200 per night for a 4 night minimum.

Things To Do At Beachfront Villas In Tulum

Swim In the Gorgeous Pool

One of my favorite parts about Zorba was access to a beautiful pool in the center of the property. Only guests at the hotel can use this pool and it is the perfect way to cool off without getting into the salty water.

Tan At The Beach

Of course I can’t forget to mention the stunning beach on this property ! Only steps away from this beachfront villa in Tulum is a beautiful white sand beach with crashing waves. My boyfriend and I spent most of our time out here- tanning on the comfy chairs and playing in the waves!

Sip Coffee on Your Balcony

When you have a balcony as nice as this it would be a shame not to use it- sunrise is the perfect time to slip out and have a cup of coffee or tea (did I mention the hotel provides a Nespresso?)

Enjoy watching the sun rise over the ocean or the palm trees sway in the salty breeze.

Drink Wine While You Watch The Sunset From The Shared Rooftop

Wow- this rooftop is AMAZING! Looking over the Caribbean Sea and high above the palm trees you can get a perfect view of your tropical surroundings. Drew and I came up here multiple nights to sip a glass of wine, watch the sun sink over the horizon and lounge on the chairs they have up there.

Do Yoga In The Private Studio

A private yoga studio? Yes please! This little studio sits atop the lobby/ entrance and looks out at swaying palm trees. You can even arrange a private class! This is the perfect wellness activity to keep you moving on your vacation.

What To Do Near Zorba Tulum?

Grab Dinner On the Hotel Zone Strip

Right outside the doors of your beachfront villa in Tulum are tons of gorgeous restaurants just waiting for you to come try them! I truly think these restaurants have some of the most amazing interior design I have ever seen and my jaw was on the floor the whole time we were there!

Walk To Matcha Mama and Get An Acai Bowl

Only a 7 minute walk from the villas is the famous “Matcha Mama” – this is a great place to go for breakfast or an afternoon smoothie. Yummy acai bowls were my personal favorite but they have tons to choose from and a great photo op with the “I love Tulum so Matcha” surfboard!

Snorkel At The Cenotes

The cenotes are by far the most unique and exciting part of visiting Tulum! There are tons and tons to choose from and you can either visit on your own or with a tour. I personally loved scoping out my own favorites and having the freedom to choose on my own. Cenote Suytun, Ik Kil and Dos Ojos were my personal favorites.

Take A Picture At The “Follow Your Dreams” Street Sign

On Your way to Matcha Mama you will pass the now- famous “Follow That Dream” street sign- this is such a cute photo op and totally worth the short stroll from the villa. It is right next to the boutique “Lolita Lolita” so if you put that in your maps you wont miss it!

Workout at The Famous Tulum Jungle Gym

You may have seen this next one on Instagram- the Tulum Jungle Gym! Around a 10 minute drive down the hotel zone strip you will find this insta-famous gym.

Called a “real life fred flinston gym” the weights are made of wood, coconuts, stone and rope. You can use pulleys and a net to lift your best friend or squat two of your pals! It is $30 a day to enter or you can pay for a week pass.
